The Temple of Digital Oblivion
Privacy Policy
The Temple of Digital Oblivion is an art installation companion, available for iOS and Android. You choose a photograph on your phone; it is sent to the Temple — a physical sculpture at the installation — over a private local Wi-Fi network, displayed there, and then permanently deleted from your device.
This page describes what the app does with your data. It is short because there is very little to describe.
What the app accesses
- Your photo library — one image, chosen by you.
The app uses your phone's system photo picker (on both iOS and Android). It does not browse or access your library as a whole; only the single photograph you explicitly select is read.
What happens to your photograph
- Sent to the Temple.
The photograph is uploaded over a local Wi-Fi connection to the sculpture (a private network at the installation). It is not transmitted to the internet or to any external server.
- Displayed, then erased there too.
The sculpture displays the photograph and deletes its copy after display. A technical log of upload events (file name, file size, and time of upload) is kept for the operation of the installation; it contains no image data and no personal information.
- Deleted from your device.
After display, the app permanently deletes the photograph from your phone, after you confirm the system's deletion dialog. This is the point of the piece. It cannot be undone.
What the app does not collect
- No personal information
- No location data
- No usage analytics or tracking
- No advertising identifiers
- No data shared with third parties
- No account or registration required
Data retention
None. The app holds your photograph only for the duration of the ritual — from selection through deletion. Nothing is written to any remote server, cloud service, or database.
